All set for a 5th edition not to be missed

The 5th edition of the Valmalenco Ultra Distance trail officially opened on Wednesday evening with the VUT Alpine Dinner. For the occasion, the organising committee invited authorities and sponsors to the brand new 'Taragna & Champagne' restaurant in San Giuseppe in Chiesa in Valmalenco for a gourmet dinner with some of the best local chefs. Coordinated by Luciano Cometti, two-time star chef Alessandro Negrini, Massimo Pedrotti, Gianluca Bassola, Pietro Longhini and Gaetano Coglitore delighted those present with modern, appealing and innovative recipes. Once again, the VUT has therefore confirmed itself as an event where sport, cuisine, passion, appreciation of the territory and local excellence have helped to overcome parochialism and unite an entire valley.

THIS WEEKEND WE RUN:
Having archived this beautiful inaugural evening, the Malencian organisational machine is now totally focused on the 'long distance' in the shadow of Pizzo Bernina, which on Friday and Saturday will see 450 ultra runners from 11 different nations set out to discover ancient paths in the border mountains between Italy and Switzerland. Equally divided over the two distances, 90 km (6000 m D+) and 35 km (2400 m D+), Luca Carrara, Nicola Bassi, Matteo Anselmi, Christian Pizzatti, Luca Schenatti, Giovanni Rossi, Daniela Rota and Raffaella Rossi will be just some of the runners competing for a top ranking place. Yes, because the unique experience of nature, high mountains and stadium cheering have become the trademark of this event.

THE RACE:
The two competitive races of 90 km (individual and relay) and 35 km will once again be flanked by the Mini-VUT, a non-competitive walk designed on the paths that connect the villages of Lanzada and Caspoggio dedicated to children and young people. The programme includes the start of the main race, the longest one, at 11pm from Chiesa in Valmalenco. Headlamps switched on for a journey to the edge of the sky on the Alta Via, touching no less than 15 mountain huts, with four climbs above an altitude of 2,600m. A tough, mountaineering trail that will end late Saturday morning for the fastest runners (the arrival of the first runner is scheduled for 11 a.m.). On Saturday, at 9 a.m. from "Pradasc" in Lanzada the competitors of the 35K will start instead. In this case the arrival of the first is expected around 1 p.m. For all finish line at the Centro della Montagna in Caspoggio. In the meantime, the little ones can try their hand at the Mini - VUT that will start from Lanzada (Loc. Pradasc) at 11 a.m. and will arrive in Caspoggio with a total length of 2 km.

SAFETY & LIVE RACE:
Behind the scenes more than 200 volunteers and rescue men will be watching over the safety of every single competitor by monitoring them along the entire route thanks to a gps system. From home it will be possible to follow every moment of the race live on the website www.setetrack.it
