Competitive and Non-Competitive 

Art. 1 ORGANIZATION 

The amateur sports association VUT organizes the second edition of the “VUT13K” on Saturday, July 25, 2026. It is a **Competitive and Non-Competitive** mountain race held in semi-self-sufficiency through an Alpine environment. 

Art. 2 GENERAL INFORMATION 

The Valmalenco Ultra Distance Trail is a foot race along the paths of the Alta Via della Valmalenco, covering approximately 13 km with 1000 meters of positive elevation gain. It is held in semi-self-sufficiency, starting in Torre di Santa Maria and finishing in Caspoggio within a maximum time of 5 hours.
The organization is affiliated with CSEN.
Each runner must ensure they carry enough water and food to reach the next aid station when leaving each refreshment point. 

Art. 3 PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS 

Participation requires mountain experience and clothing suitable for temperatures ranging from -5 to +30 degrees Celsius.
Participants must be fully aware of the environmental context in which the competition takes place and the technical difficulties of the route. 

Art. 4 REGISTRATION

4.a) Registration Requirements - Competitive Race 

The event is open to all adult athletes who are members of a sports promotion body (Csen, Csi, Uisp, Libertas…) or FIDAL for the current year, or holders of a Mountain & Trail RunCard or RunCard. Athletes currently serving bans for the use of doping substances will not be accepted.
Foreign athletes can participate if they are members of their national athletics federation. Otherwise, for insurance reasons, they will be registered with CSEN by providing a copy of their sports medical certificate or by self-certifying possession of one in accordance with current Italian regulations.

A copy of the valid medical certificate or self-declaration, if not provided during registration, must be handed in at bib collection along with the signed liability waiver. 

4.b) Registration Requirements - NON-Competitive Race 

Participation in the non-competitive “VUT 13K Non-Competitive” event, which will not have a final ranking but only an alphabetical arrival order (with individual time detection), is open to everyone aged 16 and over without the need for membership or a medical certificate (though one is recommended).
For minor athletes, authorization from a parent or legal guardian will be required during the registration phase.

4.c) Registration Procedures 

Registration opens on January 15, 2026, and closes on July 22, 2026, unless the maximum number of participants (300) is reached.
Registration must be completed according to the methods indicated on the ultravalmalenco.com website.

  • aid stations along the route 
  • race pack 
  • meal voucher 
  • finisher gadget 

4.d) Payment Methods 

The registration fee must be paid via credit card or bank transfer, as indicated on the ENDU website.

4.e) Cancellation 

In case of inability to participate, cancellation requests must be sent via email to iscrizioni@ultravalmalenco.com. No refunds will be provided.
Bib transfer may be authorized — at the race director's discretion — up to one week before the event, upon payment of a 10 euro administration fee.
In the event of race cancellation due to force majeure, no refunds will be due to participants.

Art. 5 MEDICAL CERTIFICATION - COMPETITIVE RACE 

Italian athletes must send a copy of a valid competitive medical certificate during registration or present it at bib collection. Otherwise, the registration will be cancelled and no refund will be due.
Foreign athletes can participate if they are members of their national athletics federation. Otherwise, they will be registered with CSEN for insurance purposes by providing a sports medical certificate or self-certifying possession (for foreigners) according to Italian law.
A copy of the valid medical certificate or self-declaration, if not submitted during registration, must be handed in at bib collection along with the signed liability waiver. 

Art. 6 BIB AND RACE PACK COLLECTION 

Bib and race pack collection will take place in Chiesa in Valmalenco, Piazza S. Giacomo e Filippo at the VUT tent structure from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, July 24, and from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM on Saturday, July 25 at the start area in Torre di Santa Maria. Each bib is issued individually upon presentation of a photo ID, a copy of the medical certificate (for competitive athletes), and the liability waiver. 

Art. 7 LIABILITY WAIVER 

The liability waiver must be signed by each athlete at the race office in the presence of the staff. Pre-signed waivers will not be accepted. 

Art. 8 MANDATORY GEAR 

It is mandatory to carry the following equipment for the entire duration of the race: 

  • camelbag or water bottles containing at least one liter of liquid
  • race bib clearly visible throughout the race 
  • survival blanket 
  • whistle 
  • mobile phone turned on with ringtone activated 
  • waterproof jacket with hood (recommended material Goretex or similar)
  • cup, glass, or bottle (no cups at aid stations) 
  • Small waste bag (to prevent accidental loss of wrappers and packaging along the route)
  • suitable footwear 

Mandatory gear can be worn or stored in the race backpack.
The organizing committee reserves the right to check mandatory gear at the start, during the race, or immediately after crossing the finish line. 

RECOMMENDED GEAR: 

It is recommended to carry the following items: 

  • waterproof trousers
  • energy bars or solid food
  • some cash for purchasing food at mountain huts
  • elastic bandage for dressings 

The use of poles is permitted. 

Art. 9 TIME LIMIT, CUT-OFF TIMES, WITHDRAWALS 

The maximum time to reach the finish line is 5 hours (by 7:00 PM on Saturday, July 25). A "sweeper service" will follow the last competitor to assist those who withdraw and ensure no injured participants are left without help.
A time cut-off is established at Torre Santa Maria 2h30’ (4:30 PM) after the start.
Medical staff are authorized to stop any competitor judged unfit to continue. In this case, the runner must follow the instructions under penalty of immediate disqualification.
Any runner withdrawing outside designated points must immediately communicate their withdrawal via SMS or call to the number provided and arrange their own return to Caspoggio.
The organization vehicles are not equipped for medical emergencies; official health rescue services will intervene if medical care is required. 

Art. 10 AID STATIONS

The race is semi-self-sufficient. 3 aid stations are provided along the route: 

  • Locality Spriana 3.50 km 
  • Hamlet Zarri 6.50 km 
  • Locality Motta di Caspoggio approximately at 9.50 km 

Only competitors with a visible bib have access to aid stations.
Food and drinks must be consumed on-site; litter must be disposed of in the appropriate containers. Upon leaving each aid station, runners must have enough water and food to reach the next one.
A refreshment station will be at the finish; additionally, each participant can have a hot meal at the Caspoggio sports center by showing their meal voucher.
Fountains are available along the route for water refills. 

Art. 11 RACE ASSISTANCE 

Assistance by family or teams is only permitted at aid stations. Pacing or accompanying runners is prohibited. 

Art. 12 BAG DROP

Bags can be left at the Caspoggio sports center or dropped off at the start area. 

Locker rooms and bag storage will be available at the finish area. Bags can be collected until midnight on Saturday upon presentation of the race bib. The organization is not responsible for theft or loss of bags or their contents. 

Art. 13 START 

Competitors must arrive at the start in Torre di Santa Maria by 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 25. The race starts at 2:00 PM. 

Art. 14 ROUTE 

The VUT13K route requires the ability to move on technical terrain, rough tracks, or treacherous paths, sometimes exposed.
The route follows this itinerary:
Start Torre di Santa Maria, Loc. San Giuseppe ai Bianchi, Loc. Prato, Loc. Scilironi, Spriana, Torre di Santa Maria, Loc. Zarri, Loc. Cristini, Gianni, Loc. Motta di Caspoggio, Caspoggio.
Two road crossings will be guarded by law enforcement.
Alternative routes may be presented at the pre-race briefing in case of bad weather.
Leaving the official path leads to disqualification and is at the runner's sole risk. 

Art. 15 SAFETY AND CONTROL 

Emergency call points are established at aid stations. Rescue staff will be at the finish. Official doctors can suspend runners unfit to continue. Any costs for exceptional rescue means (helicopter) will be borne by the rescued person according to current regulations. 

Art. 16 ENVIRONMENT 

The race takes place in natural environments with delicate ecosystems. Competitors must respect the environment, avoiding littering or harassing wildlife. No cups are provided at aid stations; each runner must carry their own cup or bottle. 

Art. 17 WEATHER

The organization reserves the right to modify the route or cancel the race if weather conditions threaten safety. No refunds will be due in case of race interruption. 

Art. 18 DISQUALIFICATIONS AND PENALTIES 

Disqualification applies for: - missing a checkpoint 

  • cutting the course 
  • littering 
  • failing to assist a runner in difficulty 
  • insulting staff or volunteers
  • using transport during the race 
  • refusing medical or gear checks 

Disqualification can be applied immediately on the course. 

Art. 19 PRIZES 

No cash prizes. Prizes in kind will be awarded to the top 5 men and top 5 women of the competitive category. Every finisher within the time limit receives a Finisher gadget. Awards take place at 10:00 PM on Saturday, July 25 in Caspoggio. 

Art. 20 IMAGE RIGHTS 

By registering, competitors authorize the organization to use still and moving images of them during the VUT13 event. 

Art. 21 ACCEPTANCE OF REGULATION 

Voluntary registration indicates full acceptance of these regulations. By registering, the participant exempts the organizers from any liability for damage caused by or to them.
